Our 2024 Mount Barker Estate Riesling was crowned the Best Riesling at the 2024 Sanector Wine Show of Western Australia.

Taking home gold for a wine is already a great feeling, but to have our expression of a hallmark Great Southern varietal win the category is particularly fantastic. Chief WinemakerAndrew Vesey said it was a great start for a tricky 2024 vintage – to have the recognition of the WA wine show, particularly for Riesling which can be tough to nail in challenging seasons!

“The 2023 Estate Riesling was a really sensational wine – and so you always feel a bit of pressure to follow that up the following vintage. The 2024 Riesling is stylistically quite different – and so we are very happy to see it getting a really warm reception out there. To head home with the Best Riesling trophy, when we are just getting the wine out for pre-release – that’s pretty fantastic,” said Vesey. 

The warmer 2024 vintage influenced the style of this Great Southern Riesling resulting in a riper profile compared to previous years. However, the addition of fruit from Porongurup and Denmark has balanced the palate, maintaining the hallmark acidity of previous Mount Barker dominant vintages.
