Our Il Liris 2021 Chardonnay is a special pour. A magnificent celebration of our Denmark vineyard. A beautiful presentation of fruit purity and oak curation. And we’re not the only ones who think so…. The flagship Chardonnay has been garnering some exceptional press lately. 

Emma Farrelly, Director of Wine for the State Buildings & Como The Treasury, awarded the Chardonnay 95 points. 

“Powerful and impressive array of aromatics here – stonefruit, cheesecloth, citrus and nougat. The fruit is very complete and saturating – incredibly textured … Oak is cleverly handled – present and supportive without being showy. A wine built to age, this drinks beautifully now, but will benefit some cellaring.” – Emma Farrelly, Wine Pilot

Western Australian wine royalty, Ray Jordan threw an amazing 97 points at the latest vintage. 

“This range has been one of my favourites since being introduced a few years ago. It aims to push comes boundaries especially in the winemaking cellar. So much happening here… Then the palate releases with a powerful statement of textured layered fruit displaying a deep intensity with a dry savoury and slightly flinty finish. This is complex with a capital C.” – Ray Jordan, Ray Jordan Wine

Tony Love, best known for his 10 years as the News Corp’s National Wine Writer published his 95 points for the Chardonnay onWine Pilotlate last month. 

“We have here a Chardonnay that speaks very clearly about where it comes from – WA’s Great Southern region – the vintage, a long ripening 2020/2021 growing season, and the decisive thinking of winemaker Andrew Vesey.” – Tony Love, Wine Pilot

On the processing of the wine, Winemaker Andrew Vesey said:

"This Chardonnay was hand-picked, chilled in the cool room, and whole bunch pressed straight to barrel without settling. Wild yeast fermented and partial spontaneous malolactic fermentation allowed to occur. Nine months in French oak barriques then blended on lees in stainless for a further six months prior to bottling."
