As one of the most prestigious food, wine and beer awards in Australia, the RQA is dedicated to unearthing the nation’s top food, beer and wine products year after year. Our Mount Barker Riesling has held its ground against counterparts around Australia to win Gold at this year’s award ceremony. The wine received a score of 96 points. Equal top Gold at this year’s awards.
The Wine
The Estate Riesling 2022 appears in the glass as very pale straw wine with green tinges. The nose is classic Great Southern Riesling with lime, talc and a perfumed floral lift. Powerful lemon and lime intensity with racy acidity and a quenching slatey finish.Â
The fruit was harvested in the cool of night to preserve fruit intensity and minimal delay in processing time. Some pre-pressing cold maceration occurred to maximise mid palate texture. Early separation of free run and pressings (~470L/T) allowed for the delicacy of the variety to be preserved and minimise phenolics. Only free run juice was used for this wine. Fermentation was carried out under temperature-controlled conditions (12-14°C) using R-HST yeast to dryness.
